My Story
What began as a personal journey to improve my overall health and well-being, led me
to quickly notice that there were little to no diverse instructors within the wellness
space. Through the lens of both my experience and those within my community, it
became quite clear that practically everything within the wellness industry promoted the narrative that accessibility was equated with status and privilege.
From high-end fitness apparel, exclusive wellness retreats, pricy organic foods, and
overpriced fitness spaces and venues, she was frequently the only black woman in the
room.
Although these spaces outwardly presented themselves as inclusive, I often did not
feel that I could fully delve into practice. It wasn’t until I began to have conversations
with other Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), and others, that I realized that
exclusion rooted in inaccessibility is a common thread.
Both my wellness journey and the culmination of my experience inspired me to obtain
certification as both mindfulness instructor, and coach with intention to hold
space for BIPOC, and other like-minded individuals to explore, learn, practice, and
experience firsthand the benefits of mindfulness-based living.
